Day 2: Articles, Gender, Numbers, Days & Months

Goal: Learn how to identify masculine and feminine nouns, use articles correctly, count from 0 to 100, and talk about dates.

1. Grammar: Definite and Indefinite Articles

Definite Articles (The)

Singular	Plural	English
el	los	the (masculine)
la	las	the (feminine)

Examples

• el libro = the book
• la casa = the house
• los estudiantes = the students
• las mesas = the tables

Indefinite Articles (A / An / Some)

Singular	Plural	English
un	unos	a / some (masculine)
una	unas	a / some (feminine)

Examples

• un coche = a car
• una mochila = a backpack
• unos amigos = some friends
• unas llaves = some keys

2. Grammar: Gender of Nouns

Many nouns follow these patterns (there are exceptions):

• Words ending in -o are usually masculine.
• Words ending in -a are usually feminine.

Examples:

• el libro (book)
• el teléfono (telephone)
• la casa (house)
• la mesa (table)

Some common exceptions:

• el día = the day
• la mano = the hand

Always learn a noun with its article.

Example:

• ✅ la ciudad
• ✅ el problema

2. Learn the numbers from 0 to 100.
3. Memorize the 7 days and 12 months.
4. Learn the 40 vocabulary words.
5. Read the 20 daily sentences aloud at least 10 times.

Remember the Spanish vowels always keep the same sound:

• A = ah (casa)

• I = ee (vino)
